Re: Salix Xfce 14.2

Wow, impressive work! A big "Thank you" to gapan and the other team members (djemos, mimosa ... I apologize if I've overlooked anyone), as well as to the volunteers who tested the release candidates. Last night I installed 14.2 on our Dell Latitude E4300 laptop (old but a workhorse). Every...

Re: Newbie willing to discover the Slackware universe

Bonsoir, Themis, Welcome to Salix OS and its User Forum. :) I hope you'll find it to your liking; there are several different DEs (desktop environments) and/or window managers you can try out: Xfce, MATE, Fluxbox, etc. I've been using Salix for a while, and it has always worked reliably for me -- no...

Re: Happy New Year 2016

I'm late to the party, too, but Happy New Year to everyone here in the forum. Yes, Salix rocks -- and more importantly, for me it Just Works / keeps chugging along. I'm enjoying the Fluxbox edition and appreciate some of the out-of-the-box configuration which gapan added to reduce the learnin...

Re: Install without CD?

Hi, Sasquatch, You're welcome. Please post back if you run into problems, and I'm sure someone will be able to help you. I have an old HP Mini 210 netbook (which lacks an optical drive), and using those instructions, have been able to successfully install Salix from a Live USB (Xfce) as well as a US...

Re: Install without CD?

Hi, Sasquatch, In this case, you would need to prepare a USB thumb drive / flash drive and install from that medium. The Salix FAQ has two mini-guides which can help you: http://docs.salixos.org/wiki/How_to_install_Salix_Live_on_an_USB_key Salix 14.1 currently has Live versions available for Xfce an...

Re: Vote for Patrick or AlienBob as Linux person of the year

Hi, ChuangTzu, Thanks for the heads-up about this poll; I didn't know about it. I've cast my vote (just once, so I can't be accused of stuffing the ballot box). I voted for someone who, in certain circumstances, has been referred to by certain other individuals, in certain other distros' communities...

Re: Passwords

Hi, bobo,

Thanks for posting the link to that article. :) It was very interesting, with easy-to-follow advice (even for non-cryptographers); it also had some informative comments.

Re: Salix Openbox 14.1beta1

There is a conflict with spacefm. If in autostart.sh use spacefm to set the background then nitrogen does not apply the background. If you comment the line of spacefm setting the background and uncomment the line using nitrogen to set the wallpaper background then nitrogen works. In this case space...

Re: Some Wallpapers for our Salix users.

Hi, portaro,

Thank you for creating these wallpapers. They're very nice; I like variants #5 and 6. I also like that they feature the new Salix leaf logo as part of their design.

Parab'ens e muito obrigado. :)
