The Salix Live team is proud to announce the immediate release of Salix Live KDE 13.37. Following Salix Live Xfce 13.37, this release is available in both 32-bit and 64-bit architectures.

This release is also built using SaLT (Salix Live Technology), a new system of of Live tools for Slackware-based distributions, developed in-house, in order to build Live CDs in a more dynamic fashion with very little modifications from the host system. SaLT offers considerably more power when creating a Live system compared to other tools that were used previously and is the reason that it is now possible to produce 64-bit images to complement the collection of Salix Live images.

The software included in this release is exactly the same as that present in the standard Salix KDE 13.37 release. You will find Mozilla Firefox as the default webpage browser, along with KMail, KTorrent and several more internet applications. The full KOffice suite is included, with the main applications being KWord, KSpread and KPresenter. Bangarang, a powerful media player for KDE is included, along with Clementine, which is probably the best music organizer for Linux.

As with all Salix editions, the full set of graphical system tools is available, including the Gslapt package manager and the Sourcery SlackBuild manager.

Of course, a lot of Live System specific tools have been added; the Salix Live Installer is included, so youcan install Salix in any of the three modes, Full, Basic or Core, the Salix Live Persistence manager, so it is easy to save any changes you make during a live session and LiveClone, a graphical tool that makes it extremely easy for anyone to create new customized live images, with any additional software or settings.

Sadly, the KDE edition has grown in size and it can no longer fit in a single CD and you will now a DVD if you want to burn it to an optical medium. However, it is very easy to put Salix Live in a usb thumbdrive. Scripts to do exactly that in any *nix or Windows system are available inside the iso files and instructions on how to use them are available in the Salix wiki: http://www.salixos.org/wiki/index.php/H ... an_USB_key

Salix Live can also be booted through a network connection using PXE. You will find links for initrd files for PXE booting next to the iso images download links. Instructions on how to boot Salix Live this way can also be found in the Salix wiki: http://www.salixos.org/wiki/index.php/H ... _using_PXE

The Salix Startup Guide is also available, providing a friendly introduction to Salix and Salix Live: http://www.salixos.org/wiki/index.php/S ... rtup_Guide

No, it will install lilo. Grub2 is only used for the live system booting.

And : thank you!

If you allow me : any differences between the RC1 and this definitive version? Any changelog?

If I don't say anything wrong, from what I know from djemos who did the two releases, there is no différence in the packages or configuration between those two versions.
Only the SaLT version, which has been upgraded (CHANGELOG)
- The bug about xkbvariant is very minor as Xorg is smart enough to understand the configuration even is missing a double quote. So it's a bit more to be correct.
- About install-on-USB.sh which has an error when running through Dash, it's important for Debian-based distributions, which by default, symlink sh to dash.

Thank you very much.

Am trusting you. So no need for me to download and frugally install the new iso since the RC1 is working perfectly.

Regards.

If i remember well maybe there are one-two packages upgraded since rc1. So no need to download.
And don't forget to install konq-plugins to get more functionality in dolphin.

Thank you for adding those instructions. I recently downloaded and burned the Salix 13.37 Live KDE to disc (I verified the md5sum) for a test drive, and ran into a glitch with a garbled screen display when the system reached the KDM login screen. The display looked like this:

https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/f ... directlink
(An image originally posted by user eco2geek)

My desktop PC has an Nvidia GeForce 6150SE integrated GPU, and it is affected by a problem/conflict with the Nouveau driver(s). After some trial and error, and some Googling -- thanks to both Caitlyn Martin and eco2geek -- I found a cheatcode which provided a normal screen display:

Code: Select all

nouveau.noaccel=1
(Other kernel parameters I tried didn't work for my hardware, such as: nomodeset ; all-generic-ide ; xorg=safe ; acpi=off).

I'm posting this from the Live DVD, and it has been working fine. It looks great and I'd like to thank djemos and everyone else involved with this release. :)

The other twist I discovered was that I had to use a keyboard layout of English (GB) in order for the disc to boot. (If I were to proceed with installation, it looks like the installer would allow me to change the keyboard layout back to English (US)).

I just wanted to post this, in case it saves someone else time and effort.
