Salix KDE edition 13.1.1beta5

Post by djemos »

Here's something new, a KDE flavor of Salix, featuring KDE 4.4.3. The OpenOffice.org suite is included and the corresponding locale packages depending on the installation mode can be download after installation from the"Office" submenu cliking on the "Get openoffice" option..

As with the standard, KDE edition, this iso allows installation to be performed in three different modes, core, basic and full. The core mode installation is identical to the one you get from the XFCE edition. Basic will only install a minimal KDE desktop with only firefox and gslapt installed as extra and full will install everything that is included in the iso.

Although this has not been tested much, I'm confident almost everything works fine.

Two kde locale files (el,fr) and three firefox locale files (el, fr, de) are included in this cd b/c of cd size.

The application selection is not exactly final, there might be changes until the final version. This is still in the early stages of development. Please contribute ideas.

This is 32-bit only.

Please test it and report.

I hope this cd will be usefull to anyone as it is to me.

UPDATE: the iso has been upgraded to version 13.1.1beta5.

Very nice ! :)

I've been playing with it a good part of the day & I must say that I enjoyed this new KDE experience very much. The desktop is very responsive.

I'll keep it & use it exclusively at least for the next two weeks in order to get used to it & better test it. Who knows, I might even switch to it. :D

Some suggestion:
Amarok instead of Exaile
Remove any xfce4 thunar, thunar volman etc..
LiloSetup needs os-prober as dependency

In salix-kde-beta4 xfce4 thunar, thunar volman have been removed
Thanks for telling me os-prober is needed. os-prober added to full list
exaile removed
amarok+ mysql as amarok dependency added

because of space kde-l10n-fr removed b/c it is 18MB and cd was over 711MB

you said Remove any xfce4 thunar, thunar volman etc.. [ etc ? what other programs you have in mind to remove? ]

None specifics apart from those, I wrote etc... in case I missed other Xfce specifics apps which might still be there.

Ok.
About Amarok.
I like Amarok very much. It is my favorite media player.
And it is one of the most best media players.

I hope that we are near to final edition. Will see. :D

Great news! Thanks djemos!

There's no need to rush things, lets give this a good round of testing first. The final release should also include a 64bit version (you don't have to worry about it yourself djemos ;))

I have to thank you, gapan and also akuna, jrd, thenktor, christian and other team members for your very good work on salix.

Also. There are programs included in basic list. I removed all xfce4, thunar volman
What other programs can be removed from basic list? And have more space to the cd to put more languages or something else or anything.
