Hi gapan,
I did a reinstall of salix from scratch, including repartitioning of the SSD and reformatting.
I then updated kernel and upgraded all packages, installed all I need (as far I as I remember ;) ) and so far all is fine.
Dont know where that quirk came from, as there is no other OS, except ...

Re: issue with root user
Well,
I uninstalled gksu, but no change.
You are right "root terminal from here" was probably something I did on my own or at least tried to do so.
After the crash I cleaned the volumes and installed salix from usb stick, so no interference with the old system.

issue with root user
Happy new year!
As a perfect match I crashed my system around xmas. I tried to upgrade the kernel to the latest 5.15.x but it did not run through as the disk/partition was full. Then I tried to fix this the wrong way and ended up with a non booting system. I could not restore the old system, so I ...

Re: Merry Xmas! Kernel 6.12 packages now available for Salix 15.0
Hi Gapan,
my standard PC runs quite well with the 5.15.x kernel. Other than newer hardware support, is there any need to upgrade the kernel?
Maybe its a solution for my laptop not booting salix at all... but my old BIOS PC does fine as it is.
Thanks

Re: Salix15-Live from USB does not boot
Well,
Ii gave it some further tries.
I found the elio.conf which I modified, but neither "acpi=off", nor "noapic" or both together worked.
"acpi=off" always results in a freeze when trying to access the graphics controller (amdgpu).
"noapic" at least works in a way that the installer gets over the ...

Re: Salix15-Live from USB does not boot
Hi, its me again :-)
I tried another time booting SalixLive from USB stick. Although I made a "new" stick, there is no change.
I also have a clonezillaLive USB stick which boots perfectly on the same machine.
I cannot find a way to key in the "acpi=off" command within the startup sequence ...

Re: rdiff and rdiffweb
Hi gapan,
well, rsnapshot might be an option - thanks!
rdiffweb, yeah I was after something with a GUI to explore/examine the backup.
You might be right, its probably big as it installs many python packages (if they are called so) but refused to work.
I am neither familiar with docker nor I was ...

rdiff and rdiffweb
Hi all,
its me again ;-)
After my desaster with lost emails I am about to install a backup solution.
I would like to go with rdiff-backup and rdiffweb for a somewhat "handy" interface.
However, when I installed rdiffweb via pip I could not get it to run.

Re: claws mail lost inbox content
Hi gapan,
well, no backup...it was all the time running smooth...
Well I went to the claws IRC channel and asked for help and as it looks, I really have lost the data. All files that would belong to "emails in claws" are gone.
That is what we found out quite fast.
Really ... folders were empty ...

Re: claws mail lost inbox content
Hi gapan,
I installed GsmartControl and all HD (2 SSD and 1 HD) are reported having no errors.
I am still at the point that some configuration collapsed rather than a real loss of data, but I still don't find the place where it happened.
