that did it, I reinstalled lilo in expert mode, and specified the correct drive to install it to. I am now a happy camper.

I haven't looked in on them recently but SLAX, www dot slax dot org , (If I remember correctly) was the first to support 64bit processors. I seem to remember a slax64 variant.

If printed material is important, try one of the many good magazines, I like linux journal (US) and Linux Format (UK) they both offer great info and tutorials across many distros and many experience levels.
