Welcome and, if I interpret your name correctly, it might be a good idea to get a picture of your dog, and use it for your Avatar here ;->

Re: Python Packages and Slackware Packages
Thanks, fredg - That appears to confirm my impression that pip is relatively safe, for users who understand the tradeoffs compared with using Slackware packages. (Safer, of course, using virtualenv.) I'd still be interested in hearing any other views on this; particularly any disadvantages which I m...

Python Packages and Slackware Packages
Python's official package installer, pip , handles dependencies and supports upgrades and uninstalls. The root user can use pip to install packages under /usr/lib/python2.x/, and pip allows a normal user to install under their home directory. Many "pure" Python packages are available, incl...

Re: New Editions
There are very early alpha editions in testing, for both KDE and Openbox. Testing is currently encouraged only for Salix team members, until more stable stages are reached.
However the ISOs are available for download, to anyone with the patience and persistence to track them down.

Re: Salix Xfce4 14 Great Job!!
Nice to see you back, Caitlyn. I'm looking for an affordable USB WiFi adapter for a laptop and a desktop PC. Curious about the particular model you're using, and whether it works reliably now with wicd. Thanks!caitlyn wrote:...a Belkin dongle I have on my 3.5 year old desktop, which doesn't have built-in wifi.

Re: Installing LXDE on Salix 14
Yes, first of all, only the root user may install packages with slapt-get. Then you can use slapt-get --search to find binary packages, and slapt-src --search to find a Slackbuild / SLKBUILD. Each of these command-line programs has a man page which, IIRC, explains how to add custom software SOURCEs ...

Yes, I did suspect an aspiring spammer, so checked and found that they'd waited a week between registration and making the first post. A reply seemed worth a try. Thanks for the tip on re-tuning the BS detector.
