The Salix downloads page clearly indicates Installation disk images and Live disk images. Both are available for 32 and 64 bits, although only XFCE, KDE and MATE have Live disks. As Salix follows Slackware, we use lilo. Those who wish to use grub/grub2 can do so, and probably already have it install...

It's not surprising that windows works. They get special treatment from the hardware manufacurers (something to do with money I believe). Have you tried 'sleep' or suspend to RAM instead of suspend to disk? Are you certain that the resume= parameter on your kernel boot points to your swap partition?...

for KDE you want the package networkmanagement not nm-applet. (Although nm-applet should work.)

you can have a look at /var/log/pm-suspend.log to see if there are error messages there.

You've got a few things slowing you down there. udev and HAL are taking an enormous amount of time to load and there is a lot of trouble with at least one USB device.
