I installed salix "core" mode + slapt-get --install-set x + openbox + nitrogen (for managing backgrounds) + gamin

You want to switch back to grub legacy? :o JFYI there's a 64bit and i486 package of grub2, actually most distributions (including grub upstream) changed the name to grub by now and grub legacy got some suffix now. I didn't do so ...

the classial way, with the installer, is easy too (but only for nvidia, not for ATI), but I prefer the txz/tgz packages because I like manage all and know all packages installed on my system with pkgtool: pkgtool (and gslapt) "doesn't see" a package .run installed.

I can only speak for NVidia: What is the expected Salix method for installing proprietary video drivers?
