Re: Salix Xfce 14.0beta1

LiloSetup says "NAME=SLACKWARE". Is this the way it should show it? In addition, unless I first make some change in the main window of LiloSetup, the "edit" option is not "selectable" (so to open and edit the configuration file manually). Before changing some setting, t...

Re: syslinux and isolinux in salix 14.0alpha1

Well, 14.0 beta1 is now out :). FWIW, I still think that using "/boot/syslinux/syslinux.cfg" (including the "/boot/" directory and "sys" instead of "iso") for all new Salix images (standard install, live, x32/x64, Xfce/MATE/..., ISO/TAR, ...) reduces potential...

Re: Salix Xfce 14.0beta1

I installed using manual cfdisk during setup. I arrived to the question about selecting the "/" partition. I pressed [space] (although in this step there was no specific indication about [space] and [return] keys) and then [return] to continue. I was expecting the next step to be related t...

Re: GCC in Slackware 14.0

@ thenktor , I don't _really_ know the answer to your question. My understanding (but I could be completely wrong) is that mixing binaries (that are expected to work "together") built using these different GCC versions may not work in the same way as they supposed to work. I mean, probably...

Re: GCC in Slackware 14.0

I don't think he didn't notice, but that he decided to just freeze the never-ending development and testing, so to get 14.0 out. With 14.0 already out, it will take some time to see any updates in "current". In theory, GCC 4.7.0 and 4.7.1 should really be deprecated (and 4.7.2 should be us...

GCC in Slackware 14.0

From http://www.slackware.com/announce/14.0.php Installs gcc-4.7.1 From http://www.gnu.org/software/gcc/gcc-4.7/changes.html The ABI incompatibilities have been fixed for GCC version 4.7.2 but as a result C++11 code compiled with GCC 4.7.0 or 4.7.1 may be incompatible with C++11 code compiled with d...

Re: Installing LILO to specific boot sector

Well, the boot sector, boot manager and boot loader issues seem to be resolved.

Now maybe you should start a new separated topic and provide some hardware info? Mainboard, RAM, HDD ports, video card...? Specific error messages?

Re: Installing LILO to specific boot sector

The general idea is that you can boot into your current Salix already installed (using the first wiki link), and then use gslapt to add both packages, LILO and LiloSetup (if for some reason any one of those packages is not installed already). Then you can use LiloSetup to edit the "boot=" ...

Re: Installing LILO to specific boot sector

Maybe you should read http://www.salixos.org/wiki/index.php/Boot_into_existing_installation_on_hard_disk_using_installation_CD and http://www.salixos.org/wiki/index.php/LILO_bootloader_-_fix,_configure_and_customize . BEWARE: The links posted in those wiki pages might need to be updated to point to ...

Re: Installing LILO to specific boot sector

You could use LiloSetup from SalixLive to ("advanced") edit lilo.conf. IIRC , the "boot=" directive for your case would be "boot=/dev/sdc3" (maybe you should wait for akuna , developer of Lilosetup, or at least someone else to confirm whether I am remembering correctly,...
