Thanks for the info.
I don't pretend to understand how KMS works, but I believe you.
Okay, so most of the Slackware related tutorials regarding a boot splash are based on each end user knowing the hardware. That would explain why these tutorials succeed.
Yet I remain confused how the other distro ...

Re: Boot Splash
There is just no bootsplash implementation that will work without kernel patching and with all hardware.
I found two recent threads at LQ Slackware for creating a boot splash. One approach does not require kernel patching and uses stock Slackware packages.

(Solved) Re: Warning, you are using the root account...
Solved. :)
I was under the impression the message would be universal, like in a single header file. But that is not the case. Seems the only place the message appears is in thunar and mousepad.
So far I have found the message only in those respective *.po files. After compiling they appear in the ...

Just don't work as root
Uh, yeah, uh-huh. :)
thenktor's right, it's there for a reason.
His smiley's indicate he was joking. Working as root is not a sin although there are developers of certain distros who act that way. As Salix is derived from Slackware, where users are trusted to know their ...

Locating was not my point. I want to edit the menu to be description oriented and not name oriented. Is that possible?

Salix Tweak
Has any thought or discussion been given to adding to the nice collection of Salix system tools a "Salix Tweak" tool?
The Tweak tool would function similarly to Ubuntu Tweak or the Windows Power Tweak --- a graphical mechanism to tweaking various desktop options not supported by the desktop ...

Xfce Start Menu
I have been searching for ways to modify the Xfce Start menu.
The menu options use the app name, which provides little or no clue to the app's purpose. Except to those people who already know, names such as Transmission, Brasero, Catfish, Exaile, etc. provide no immediate help about purpose. I ...

Warning, you are using the root account...
When running certain apps as root in Xfce, a red bar appears with the message "Warning, you are using the root account, you may harm your system."
I have been grepping the Xfce source code and cannot find that message. I would be grateful if anybody would help me find this message in the sources ...

Re: Boot Splash
What are the technical issues?
Could a custom kernel with boot splash support be provided as a package in the Salix "Extra" repositories and not installed by default? That would allow some users both options and not interfere with the upstream compatibility requirement.
