Re: HOWTO: My IceWM Configuration (verbose)

Excellent tutorial, thanks! I've actually been using icewm some lately, so this comes in handy.

Re: Switching from CentOS 7 to Salix 14.1

What a shame. Maybe I'll switch to slackware. I think you are misunderstanding what rokytnji is saying. He's saying that AntiX (based on Debian, which is switching to systemd) is probably switching to systemd, not Salix. Why that's relevant in a Salix forum (based on Slackware, which has NO plans o...

Re: Midori

In my experience, Midori is very crash-prone. I keep hoping with each update that it will be less so, but this never seems to be the case. For most browsing needs, I stick with Firefox, and for lightweight browsing, it's either Netsurf or Dillo, and for text-only it's Links.

Re: Dumb Question

On Salix/Slackware, the easiest way to do this is by using Alien Bob's adaptation of the Easy Firewall Generator. Just generate the firewall, copy the output to /etc/rc.d/rc.firewall, and make it executable.

Code: Select all

chmod a+x /etc/rc.d/rc.firewall

Re: Salix Xfce 14.1

Very solid release. I am testing Salix Xfce 14.1, Slackware 14.1, and Debian 7.4 as replacements for several WinXP boxes at work. They just need to be able to run Filemaker Pro (via WINE), Firefox, Thunderbird, Acrobat Reader, and print documents. Salix may work very nicely, with a much smaller inst...

Re: Salix on notebooks / laptops

I've always had good luck with ThinkPads. My T61 (Intel graphics) is a great Linux laptop, runs everything I throw at it (usually runs Slackware).

Re: Salix 14.1 screenshots

gapan wrote:Nice! How did you take the screenshot? Is it in a VM?

This reminds me I have to upload some stock 14.1 screenshots I have...
I took the screenshot with fbdump, available at SlackBuilds:

No VM, bare metal installation.
