This problem seems familiar to me, I remember it happening on my netbook (Acer Aspire One 722 with ATI card), but I don't remember the exact steps to solving the problem. I don't think it was anything to do with the filesystem though.
Could you tell me what specific Dell laptop it is? And ...

I did fsck process as you said . it shows clean. when i run fdisk command , there was a little unusual info as following:
Partition 5 does not start on physical sector boundary.

failed to boot constantly at the 1/3 of booting progress
I'm runing salix 14.0 sincee the RC1, and keeping to update to the newest. there always a booting problme occured when and then during the booting progress, at about 1/3 of the progress, with the black and white(or high light) stribes fill the screen. then i have to power off to reboot, usually ...

deserter, if you downloaded the files inthat directory to a directory on your machine, and ran that command (not as root) from the downloaded directory, it should definitely work. One of the files *is* SLKBUILD.

I collect some insignificant problem since I installed rc1that I failed to solve, my experience about thoese problem is that they were eventually figured out and fixed as I keeping plug. but I'd like to speed up the process if it's possible also as learning notes .

I do run tor-browser-bundle getting that error mesgs , not just tor . I followed your instruction and output is this : 'No SLKBUILD found in directory, see slkbuild --help' .

Maybe I asked wrong question. thoese partitions of windows did not actually mounted , they just show up on the side section of thunar , any time clicking on it , then it would be mounted. I guess it's quite convinient, it's an advantage .
