Idle is already included in Python by default, however it needs tk as a dependance.

So just install tk and you should be able to execute idle from the terminal.

Also, if you type recordmydesktop directly from the terminal, then you would only execute the backend. Instead, try typing qt-recordmydesktop or locate its entry in the menu?
