Re: TOTEM locks up computer
Ok, I'll try mplayer . Doing some more research it seems that asx is not really a file as much as a file-pointer, to redirect to a different location where the actual file resides. Confusing.

TOTEM locks up computer
What programs in Salix are capable of playing "asx" type audio files? I assume this is 'streaming audio' which I don't understand very well. I played this song on a website, the totem-browser plugin is what pops up and plays in Firefox. I saved the URL and wanted to play it again , so I open this ...

Re: digital camera software
That does work, gapan. Thanks for the tip, I thought there would be something that did it-just didn't know the name. Gthumb automatically configured the camera, all I had to do was plug it in.

Re: add KDE
Marcell, you have solved the problem!!!! I have never known that set of features existed in KDE. This has bugged me for 3 years ( same behaviour in KDE 3.5, in SlamD64 12, the OS I have been running since it came out). This trick worked even in SlamD 64 also. I owe you a beer, thanks very much.

Re: add KDE
Thenktor, I think you misunderstood. I don't want to start FF a second time if it's running. The problem has been, if I choose to open FF from the menu in KDE, it attempts to open 2 instances at once! Or at least that is what appears to be happening. Usually, the browser will open quickly, but as ...
Re: add KDE
It's a mystery to me, but starting the FF from the menu does it every time with this new KDE, and at least half the time in my old OS, Slamd64. Using Salix with the standard DE , I've never seen it happen. I read once somewhere in Slackware that it has something to do with QT, but who knows.
Re: add KDE
Thanks for the tip, I haven't had time to mess around with the new KDE I downloaded yet, but it looks like a fairly shocking change from KDE 3.5, which I was familiar with.
I thought I had Salix already 'current', I keep up with the upgrades....I'll search for more info on that, since I see on ...

thanks immensely! It worked. Now to do some exploring...
add KDE
Is there a how-to somewhere for the proper way to add KDE to Salix. I decided to 'go for it' and see what the new KDE has to offer, tonight, but I'm unclear on how to actually get it to start.
