@thenktor, True, but scrolling messages arent the most user friendly thing either. I dont understand what a bootsplash would take away from a distro. In anycase, it is finally left to the developers what they think is right. But, i think we do need a place where users can discuss/debate with the dev...

You need gnome-python installed, it has the python bindings to gconf.

Caffeine does this automatically for apps you specify & flash videos too.

Its called 'xfce4-power-manager' and it's in the salix repos.
It's installed by default on the Xfce version of Salix.

If you are using the Xfce Power Manager as well, enabling the power manager plugin in parole will fix that. EDIT: Also, in the right-click menu of Xfce Power Manager is an option called 'Monitor Power Control', unticking it will disable blanking of the screen, so if you're watching something on yout...
