Re: GNOME 3

Having used the latest live cd for a few days now, i can tell you it's a huge improvement from Gnome 2. Sure they radically changed the way things are done, and yes it does take getting used to the new layout, but once you do, you will find that it's much easier to work with. The new notifications s...

Re: How to install b43 firmware for Broadcom wireless cards

Next time I update the package I'll move the script to /usr/sbin. I'm considering adding an option to save the created package instead of installing it. This way you can run the script on a system with internet access (livecd comes to mind) then copy the package to a stranded system to get the wire...

Re: How to install b43 firmware for Broadcom wireless cards

Well Written! Perhaps, this would be better off in the wiki? It would be more accessible there IMO. A Couple of comments: 1. Would be nice if you keep the shell script in /usr/bin, so you can just run it as install-b43-firmware. 2. Perhaps a simple gui with zenity for the script and a menu entry for...

Re: Introducing myself

If we take a look at that pic, we can see how they have polished it. The look is one thing, that lxpanel looks really really great, at least to my eye. Just another gtk and icon theme. There is already a discussion about it in another theme. The Openbox theme IMHO is quite ugly on that screenshot. ...

Re: Salix Update Notifier - Multiple Notification Icons

@Shador, Thanks for the code, that's what i was trying to acheive, but i didnt know you could track pid's of processes launched from a script. @damNageHack, After thinking a bit more clearly, i do see that the pgrep with the 'salix' bit would mostly account for other zenity processes around. Thanks,...

Re: Salix Update Notifier - Multiple Notification Icons

@damNageHack,

The pgrep line you wrote wouldnt work if there's more than one instance of zenity around, would it?
Anyways, i'll have a shot at it tomorrow, it's getting a bit late.

Cheers,
ray

Re: Salix Update Notifier - Multiple Notification Icons

Maybe try something like the following. You should only have to change the line zenity --notification \ to pgrep -f zenity.+salix && zenity --notification \ EDIT: Although, I can not reproduce it here with Salix Live 13.1.1 LXDE. The icon shows up again only if I've clicked on it before, bu...

Re: Salix Update Notifier - Multiple Notification Icons

One way i can think of is to move the zenity notification icon to a seperate script, so we can track the pid and kill it before showing another.

Will try and give it a whirl.

Cheers,

Re: Salix Update Notifier - Multiple Notification Icons

Perhaps the script should be modified to remove the current icon before adding another? Better add only a new one if there is not already one :) But I wonder how this could be solved due to the usage of zenity ... :? Maybe with some kind of a lock file. You would have to check in both cases for a r...
