Re: LS_OPTIONS
My mention of $LS_COLORS causing issues was a long shot in case it was possible to inject cursor positioning escape sequences. It was simple to test by clearing the variable. It's probably impossible for $LS_COLORS to cause your problem. I've never looked into this. Are your configuration files rest...

LS_OPTIONS
You may want to go back to basics and check what is actually executing. which -a ls alias whereis ls For me there is only 1 ls executable on the system the rest are symbolic links. But perhaps another ls file snuck onto your system. :) There is an alias for ls however which uses the $LS_OPTIONS vari...

Re: Root
When I need to run as root in a shell for a while, I do this. sudo /bin/bash This way I get the advantages as running as root without changing the default setup of no root login. If you have a little more interest in this topic ... You can bring back the root user. As gapan wrote in the 141. announc...

Re: Full disk encryption problem
You're correct. Poor choice of words on my part.
I meant that it wasn't on the installation disk I was using. I didn't mean to mislead.
Your post made me realize I moved the kernel the hard way instead of using Salix tools.

Re: Full disk encryption problem
Has anyone tried to do the full disk encryption with README_CRYPT.TXT on Salix 14.1? I just built a Salix64 14.1 system with all disk partitons encrypted except /boot . http://forum.salixos.org/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=5149&p=33528#p33528 I had noncritical errors similar to yours until I figure...

Thanks for the information mimosa
I've not used any dependency management system before. I've only just compiled software manually or used slackbuilds.org scripts. I like all of the choices the Salix/Slackware environment provides.

Re: Skype Ringtones Puzzle
Your example where the tone doesn't work just has you typing "skype" not "./skype". In case this is the issue ... It doesn't matter which directory you are in. If your search path doesn't include dot "." (the current directory), or doesn't include the path to your curre...

Re: Screen resolution configuration
The driver (such as vesa) or laptop can't handle 1600x1200 which you set, so the error pops up. Try another value such as vga=791 (1024x768). If that resolution and color depth is supported by your laptop video then it will stop asking. If that doesn't work then try a smaller resolution such as 800x...
