Re: ldconfig message
Sheesh. Thanks for the help. It's not an issue of package management, and I've read through all the docs but it doesn't address my problem. Never mind, there are plenty of other distros...

ldconfig message
I've added a shared object to /usr/lib but it seems it isn't being found (it's in relation to a library required by FreeBASIC), and running ldconfig I get this message:
Any suggestions?ldconfig: /usr/lib/libarmmpeparser.so.0 is for unknown machine 40.

Re: Parole doesn't install plugin
Well, since you ask, no particular reason apart from not wanting to have stuff I don't need on the system. Anyway, I've installed them all and the problem with Parole is fixed. Thanks again.

Re: Parole doesn't install plugin
Right, thanks. I did look at the multimedia codecs but wasn't sure which one to install, and I didn't want to install all of them.

Parole doesn't install plugin
Parole was the installed (default) mediaplayer in xfce 14.1, but when trying to play mpg4 files, I get this message - Parole needs MPEG-4 Video decoder to play this file. It can be installed automatically. But after selecting "install" nothing happens. It seems this is a bug related to xfc...

Multiple update notifications
Not sure if this is an xfce issue but I'm getting multiple notifications for package updates, usually 4 icons show up on the taskbar, but three are redundant.

Re: Openbox vs Fluxbox Salix
Hi rokytnji, Thanks for the feedback. Well, some progress; I can get the desktop with the Salix icons when I run pcmanfm --desktop from a terminal, but pcmanfm --desktop-pref gives me the same error as above. With the desktop running, I can then open the Desktop Preferences window but can't change t...

Re: Openbox vs Fluxbox Salix
I installed the fluxbox edition but when I try to open "Desktop Preferences" I get an error message - "Desktop manager is not active". I understand that fluxbox doesn't support desktop icons, so is this why I'm getting the error?
Thanks again for any help.

Re: Openbox vs Fluxbox Salix
I'd forgotten how fast Salix installs, so I'll give them both a try, as you suggest. Thanks.

Openbox vs Fluxbox Salix
I have an old netbook which I'd like to put Salix on, and was wondering which version to install. It seems there isn't much difference in terms of resource usage between fluxbox and openbox, but apart from that, are there any compelling reasons to choose one over the other? I've never used fluxbox. ...
