Re: CPU scaling, pysolfc and gkrellm
Wow gapan, are you getting fed up with your distro and this forum? I saw you get snippy with others too. Then you ban them, lol, sad. FYI, pysolfc and gkrellm are common, everyday packages, they should install flawlessly without any stupid little glitches and headaches. So yeah, nonsense like that i...

CPU scaling, pysolfc and gkrellm
This is in a MATE 14.1 bare metal SSD install. My CPU is in my sig, scaling was not set to ondemand OOTB, and I had trouble trying to get it auto ondemand every boot as opposed to manual CL throttling each session, after searching forums and trying a few things, I just gave up. This would work but w...

[SOLVED] MATE 14.1 installer blank screen, Radeon R7 250
I'm trying to get MATE installed on a spare SSD, but after the installer disk kernel loads, the screen goes blank. My 990FX chipset requires the (huge.s) iommu=soft parameter. My video card is a discreet Asus Radeon R7 250 (this chip has been around for a while, it's fairly well supported, driver or...

For AMD users with IOMMU
iommu=soft works in the live disk kernel boot line for newer AMD machines with the IOMMU option (off by default) in the BIOS, it's hell without that parameter, no USB 2.0 mouse, no USB 3.0 (Via chip controlled), etc. The other workaround (without the parameter) is turning USB 3.0 off and IOMMU on t...

Re: Brother HL-1435 requires foomatic
@gapan...Sorry about that, the IOMMU thing was just a heads up for anybody with the same type of mobo, I found that out the hard way, you're right, probably the wrong place for it. @westms...I did give a thorough explanation, I clearly stated the gutenprint driver does not work, if the link you supp...

Re: Death of PC
Not so much tablets but laptops are replacing PCs. Tablets are just smartphones on steroids, surf the web and show people pictures, big whoop. Tablets are also good for keeping kids out of their parents' hair on long trips, etc. AFAIAC, I'll keep my PC, I enjoy building them and being able to upgrad...

Nice to see some animal lovers here
This is my 'spoiled brat', had her since she was a kitten (got her 'free' at a yardsale, the last kitten of the litter, she was the 'runt'), she's 14 3/4 years old now, she doesn't move like she used to, that's for sure, neither do I for that matter, lol. http://s18.postimg.org/9uf18k6w5/Stormy_2013...

Brother HL-1435 requires foomatic
Hi all, my first post, great distro. I am no stranger to Linux and have been kicking the tires of Salix for a while now in anticipation of replacing Debian when it goes full blown systemd (in Jessie), or preferably sooner. This is my problem, Brother does supply a proprietary driver (a pain in the r...
