Re: Xfce and Mate on same install?

There is actually a distro that has worked on combining and running several DEs seamlessly, actually to the point of switching mid-session .. but can't remember the name. Mixing Xfce and Mate should not be a problem now, I remember it would be a PITA to mix Xfce-LXDE-Mate earlier as their settings c...

Re: openbox installation on old pc

Very neatly setup Openbox installation. Nice. And very fast and stable. However wifi did not work, seemed to connect but could not get any data and disconnected all the time. Suspect driver problem. Tried a partial upgrade but after upgrading the kernel got a kernel panic at boot. So better use 14.2...

Re: openbox installation on old pc

Would not be a problem anyway I guess, not much of a problem to have an old version of openbox.

If you want to run say Windowmaker you will be using some old code.. in Debian they removed wmakerconf, the settings manager
for Windowmaker, have to go back to Squeeze if not older to find the deb now.

Re: openbox installation on old pc

Okay, thanks for that, very useful!

Any other of the light windowmanagers that could be installed in 14.2, Windowmaker or Fluxbox?

openbox installation on old pc

I want Openbox on a eee pc 1000H 1 gb Atom 32 bit.

Is it best to install 14.2 and then just install openbox or is it best to use Openbox 14.1 iso and then upgrade?

I want a fast system with this old pc but also want Pulseaudio (and bluetooth) to work, so want the upgrades of 14.2.

Re: wvdial

I downloaded the packages wvdial and wvstreams (64 bit versions) https://pkgs.org/slackware-14.1/slackonly-x86_64/wvdial-1.61-x86_64-2_slack.txz.html https://pkgs.org/slackware-14.1/slackonly-x86_64/wvstreams-4.6.1-x86_64-2_slack.txz.html then copied my custom wvdial.conf to /etc: [Dialer Defaults] ...

Re: wvdial

The problem is the same in all distros now it seems: a number of Huawei 4g modems (possibly others too) do not get online with networkmanager. Not sure what the error is. Network/modemmanager automatically sets up a connection but it's greyed out, unusable. If the user sets up a connection manually ...

wvdial

Could this be included in the iso? Networkmanager/nm-applet/modemmanager do not solve everything, in fact it has gotten some new bugs.. My experience is with Debian/ubuntu but I get the same when trying Manjaro etc. My Huawei 4G modem, which has worked without problems for years does not work at all...
