Re: Missing dependency to gnupg/gnupg2?

The logical way to do this is to have gnupg dependent on a cli package, say pinentry-ncurses, and gpa dependent on a GUI package, say pinentry-GTK3. But as you said Slackware will never do that - it doesn't have to, since they have the "install them all" policy. Still, it is silly to use a...

Re: Missing dependency to jed

I guess I somehow removed slang then (although I really don't think I did that). No matter, feel free to rename thread with [Solved] as a prefix (I would do that if I could).

Re: Missing dependency to jed

I'm guessing the only way this wouldn't work, is if you removed the slang package manually, therefore removing the /usr/lib64/libslang.so.2 symlink and then tried to install jed. I don't know what happened here, but I started with a standard installation, and I didn't actually remove anything. I in...

Re: What if Slackware dies?

No, Salix should not use Debian at all. If I want Debian, I'll use Debian (or Devuan in this case, because I don't like Systemd or other Poetteringware in general). Who mentioned Debian in this thread? Debian is infected by systemd to the bone - not to mention other crapware from the same bunch of ...

Re: What if Slackware dies?

"Nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky" says an old great song (and I'm not sure about those either). That being said, Slackware proved to be too good to die. It is the most "deathproof" distribution out there, and the one that it is still around after 30 years. Others come...

Missing dependency to gnupg/gnupg2?

Although gnupg and gnupg2 will work on Salix 15, they have limited use because you can't generate keys. gpg2 --full-generate-key won't work because it needs pinentry , which is not installed as a dependency. Same with gpa , the graphical interface for gnupg. I am not quite sure you will consider thi...

Missing dependency to jed

The jed editor makes extensive use of the S-Lang library / scripting language, which is provided by the package slang . However slapt-get / Gslapt won't pull slang if you try to install jed. So running jed won't work because it will be missing shared library libslang.so.2. Therefore slang must be ad...

Re: Salix 15.0 screenshots

350-370 Mb on idle sounds about right, but it sure can go up to 450 ore even more, with "goodies" starting by default. IceWM with a "luxury" setup that looks very much like XFCE drops this to 200-250 Mb, depending on how fancy I go. One of my lightest setups (Openbox without a ta...

Re: Salix 15.0 screenshots

It would be nice if you included a tool like Btop, Htop, or even XFCE's Task Manager to show the memory and RAM usage in the screenshots. But I guess Neofetch will do as well. 565 Mb of RAM used just for a terminal open though? That's too much for XFCE. You must be running stuff in the background.

Re: Problems while running 15.0 in an old pc

With 4Gb of RAM, it should be flying rather than running Salix 15, without stressing the machine that much to raise temperature. I am not sure what's going on here. But I'm sure the additional burden Salix 15 has compared to 14.2 is too small to justify such a temperature raising.
