I think sysvnit is a good software yet, I do not any knowledge about init systems but I suppose Bsd init or Openrc ( Many people say is a beta software) are good choices also...

I have just installed with a xfs system and everything is ok, caja and any software don't use 100% In fact, at now I'm surfing with spend of cpu 20% each core. Very fastly.

I'm guessing that you're using the same home dir between distributions. There could be conflicts in configuration that cause this. Create a new user account in Salix with a clean home and see if you get the same. mmmm, But I dont share anything with debian I did remove debian inside my hd.as I said...
