Hey, a series of silly questions: 1) Is the MATE environment that results from the above 'trick' any newer than what you get in 14.1? I realize it's just a point release, but that's at least +0.1 shiny! 2) would a slapt-get --remove xfce4 (or similar) remove all the unneeded packages from the origin...

Our stories sound similar, smithadmin. Also, I might have been the AC you've seen mention Salix on Slashdot, particularly if it was described as "Slackware, with just a touch of automation".
