Re: problem installing "binary plugin" for HP printer [solved]

Thanks Papasot! All working well here, you are right, those are good printers and also the refill is reasonably straightforward.

Re: spotify latest version

In cases like this (proprietary app that better be kept up to date and should probably not come into contact with the rest of the system), I would use the flatpak. Agreed. I use Spotify so rarely I can't rightly remember, but I think I did try this before. Shortly I will be decamping to another bas...

Re: spotify latest version

Thanks papasot, I've installed your package.

It seems to work well enough, once the "keyring" message goes away. It didn't make me log in via the web interface this time.

spotify latest version

First of all, the version of the spotify app in the Salix extra directory is not the latest (1.1.10 as opposed to 1.2.22.982 on slackbuilds.org) and doesn't work. The newer version has some additional dependencies ( ayatana-ido and associated libraries, also vala ). I was able to build these after i...

Re: Another Chromebook user

I've got it on a Chromebook, and it runs like Achilles.

I wish I had discovered Linux "back in the day". I was about ten years behind you.

Re: problem installing "binary plugin" for HP printer [solved]

Thanks Papasot. Does it match the one I have? mimosa[ppd]$ md5sum HP_LaserJet_Professional_P1102.ppd 4fa2e566674fc9cff6277d079f185b0d HP_LaserJet_Professional_P1102.ppd I will definitely have another fiddle with this at some point, to see if I can make it work in a more straightforward way. Does you...

Re: problem installing "binary plugin" for HP printer [solved]

Thanks to all for your help. Here is what I did: 1. git clone https://github.com/koenkooi/foo2zjs.git ... then followed the instructions in the INSTALL file. Basically just make and make install (no need for extra files) 2. hplip was installed. 3 I installed the script system-config-printer suggeste...

Re: problem installing "binary plugin" for HP printer

Thanks djemos, I'll definitely try that if it recurs. Papasot, I doubt it is the proper one too. I will keep playing with it now and see what breaks it. But I installed with the script suggested by djemos, and not hplip. python-distro is now installed as a dependency after your post about it. But I ...

Re: problem installing "binary plugin" for HP printer

I am pleased to report that I have (more or less) got it working! Key steps: 1 I opened the cover, removed the toner cartridge, and extracted a piece of scrunched-up sellotape floating around in there 2 I actually installed that foo2zjs thing, rather than just copying some of the files into /usr/loc...

Re: problem installing "binary plugin" for HP printer

Thanks djemos, that appeared to work perfectly, but the paper still jams, and also, after some time a dialogue from hplip pops up telling me I need to install the binary plugin. My guess is that there is a hardware fault causing the printer to jam (so I need to return it to Ebay) and a separate diff...
