Re: Configure NetworkManager to use dhcp for better connecti
I did as you requested with NM 1.2.2 installed and operational. I pulled the power and allowed the laptop to die from a depleted battery. I plugged it back in, powered it up, logged in, and NM established a Wifi connection with my router as normal. Before I downgraded NM from 1.2.6, I had rebooted s...

Re: Configure NetworkManager to use dhcp for better connecti
Troubles abound... I'd been keeping this laptop powered up for quite some time, only placing it in suspend between uses. Sunday night I pulled the power with the lid closed while half asleep and rather than go into suspend, as the lid was already closed, the laptop ran until the battery died. Yester...

Encrypted persitence file?
I am just getting started playing with the Salix Live ISO on a USB stick. I have not seen it mentioned anywhere and searching this forum came up with no results.
Is it possible to encrypt the persistence file where, presumably, any data written to the home directory would be stored?

Re: What is a good distro to recommend for beginners?
So, that was it? So far, I've not had any issues by using dhclient from the dhcp package. We've had a couple of reports that NetworkManager wouldn't work (laprjns was one), but nobody else would be able to reproduce it. Obviously (now) because nobody else had OpenWRT routers, but nobody else had ma...

Re: salix.hostingxtreme.com appears to be down
Well, I'd never looked there! I guess I made an assumption that the announcements forum only had to do with site announcements and not project announcements. As the default installation wrote the hostingxtreme address and since I don't recall reading any where else that this situation was imminent, ...

salix.hostingxtreme.com appears to be down
After receiving security advisory emails, I tried updating through Gslapt yesterday and received error messages that package files are not available and should they be ignored, etc. I checked with the browser and I get a 404 error on any directory and an error landing page when just trying to go to ...

Re: What is a good distro to recommend for beginners?
You're welcome!
Actually, I resolved this when trying the latest Liveslack last month where I ran into the same issue.

Re: What is a good distro to recommend for beginners?
In my opinion, with the proper coaching, most any general distribution would be a good choice. In my experience, so long as the newbie is made aware that the new system will have many similarities and many differences than what they are familiar with, the transition is usually fairly smooth. What is...

Re: Much thanks to the Salix team!
I'll add my thanks as well. I've been using Salix 14.2 daily on my Lenovo T410 laptop for several weeks. So far I have been very pleased. I started playing with Slackware 3.0 back in the late summer of 1996. It was my first experience with anything other than MS-DOS and MS Windows 3.1, although I ha...
