Re: What if Slackware dies?

No, Salix should not use Debian at all. If I want Debian, I'll use Debian (or Devuan in this case, because I don't like Systemd or other Poetteringware in general). What I like about Salix is that I get an even more old school GNU/Linux experience than Debian, due to being more Unix-like and featuri...

Re: Adding Alien to Gslapt sources.

My limited Slackware experience tells me this is a very bad idea. As has been said, Salix's repositories handle dependency tracking to mitigate breakages. I think that as long as you know what you're doing (i.e. installing very specific software versions you can't find on official repositories that ...

Re: Cheers from a Devuan User

Yeah, I actually tried to follow the steps closely, but had problems logging in to use Startx. I'll give it some time to get acquainted with the Slackware way of doing things, as I'm so used to the "conveniences" of Debian and Arch GNU/Linux. Even with SysVinit, Salix is quite lightweight ...

Re: Cinnamon File Manager - Nemo

I'm a bit surprised that not even Slackware itself provides Nemo or any other Cinnamon-related packages. Nothing via the SlackBuilds repository, either...

Re: Black Screen When Launching Xfce Session

Third post in a row... I created a backup with Timeshift, attempted to install Atril (from SlackBuild), and got this as a list of files to be recovered compared to the last backup: /etc/ld.so.cache /etc/mtab /etc/timeshift/timeshift.json /usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache /usr/share/icons/hicolo...

Re: Black Screen When Launching Xfce Session

I suspected that perhaps it had something to do with bad symlinks of LibNMA, so I attempted to reinstall it. When I checked the GSettings again, it said no schemas were installed...? But, no blackout this time, despite the Xfce Weather Update plugin now wanting to leave my panel. Packages installed ...

Re: Black Screen When Launching Xfce Session

I removed Atril the other day to try out MuPDF, but then I got that blackout bug yet again, so reinstalling Atril still caused that same bug. I can say with certainty that it has nothing to do with Timeshift, because it happened even just post-install after installing straight from both the Salix an...

Re: Black Screen When Launching Xfce Session

It's sad to say that this problem still persists. It mainly affects GTK-based programs (e.g. Atril). If I try to install such programs, my Xfce desktop and panel will "vanish", and my GTK themes and icons will be "removed". When this happens, checking GSettings for the schemas in...

Re: SSL peer certificate or SSH remote key was not OK

It's also happening over here. Not a problem, though, since I already upgraded my Xfce, but as I understand, keeping that repository prevents Salix from reverting to 4.16, right?
