Re: Salix Xfce 15.0beta1

Nice work!

No problems booting and installing in an imac with dual core Intel Core2 Duo E8135 and 2GB memory. So far no problems running it either, but I just got started...

Re: What is a good distro to recommend for beginners?

I used to put Linux Lite on computers for beginners, on older computers I restored from old Windows® machines. It was very fast and especially designed for newbies. One of the things I liked best about LL was that they named applications for their functions in the Whisker menu. A newbie wouldn't kn...

Re: What is a good distro to recommend for beginners?

My Finnish friend whose Salix installation I support is going to try MX-Linux on his new laptop. When Salix 15 comes out, I'll suggest he dual-boots. Of the more mainstream distros, MX does look pretty good, reasonably stable, not too heavy, with excellent doc. If he gets through the partitioning a...

Re: 7.4 Can not start X, lilo can not find vmlinuz

Just a thought, is the stick pugged in to an USB3 port? If so, try an USB2 port (if there is one), it often solves booting problems.

Re: Live CD's and Radeon

About nvidia Well, this is not about Nvidia. All these boot into a live session on a Nvidia-computer without problems, the blacklist causes problem after installing to harddisk. I can not really understand why it is installed at all, no other driver for Nvidia than nouveau is there. And if I instal...

Live CD's and Radeon

As I wanted to try out the Slackware Alpha, I decided to install it on my kitchen computer first. This is an iMac 8,1 from 2008 with a Mobility Radeon HD2400XT (RV610/M74). I could not get Slackel7.4 to boot from an USB-stick, so I tried both an older Slackel (7.3? I did not write the version on the...

Re: A "Point Release?"

Updating Slackel it turned out a package "glibc-solibs" does not exist, maybe aaa_glibc-solibs? That one was updated by the upgrade command, so it should not be a problem (I think).

Refind as bootloader?

Maybe Refind could be good to have as an alternative to grub? Or to elilo, if that one is still under consideration. It does not need reconfiguring after each kernelupdate, if I am not mistaking it automatically chooses the newest kernel if several are installed. In most cases it works without any c...
