Flatpaks
Not so much a problem, more of a rant. I've never used flatpaks or any other system that mimics Windows, so this was my first experience. I installed Wine. The download was 1200 MB — I could hardly believe it, since that was almost 10 times the Debian package. After making sure that it worked, for ...

Insralling from a live disk
When I encountered this problem, I posted in in the problems section, since it might be me. But actually it's you.
I downloaded the live version and put it on a usb stick. It booted perfectly but it would not install. This computer has UEFI and I wanted to install in /dev/sda5. The installation ...

Re: Live installer failure
I don't remember the live medium asking that question. I can't check because the USB stick has been reused and I can't find the on-line documentation for using it!

Re: What if Slackware dies?
Rosa and ALT are not the only descendants of Mandriva. There's also Mageia and PCLinuxOS, both independent and the latter resolutely free of systemd for those who hate it.

Re: Live installer failure
Well here I am running Salix, having installed from the installation disk. The fact that the live installer looked for a boot flag and wouldn't see sda5 shows that it was treating my UEFI system as if it were legacy BIOS. But all's well that ends well.

Re: Live installer failure
I have 5 partitions: an efi, two formated as ext 4, a swap, and a newly created sda5 formated as ext4. My intention was to use sda5 to install distros for review, something I used to do. By my usual method of "creative tinkering" I found that the selection box is not greyed out if I mark sda5 as ...

Live installer failure
I'm trying to install Salix alongside another distro using the live installer. I've answered all its questions and I have a free partition available but it won't work. The box for the install location is greyed out and clicking on it has no result. What am I doing wrong?

Lilo discontinued
I notice that people are still referring to Lilo, but it's been discontinued. Has anyone heard of some-one taking over the project?

Re: LiveCD almost dead???
Over the last few months there have been a lot of people coming to LinuxQuestions asking for advice about switching to Linux now that XP support has ended. I tend to advise Mint for the larger computers, AntiX for the smaller ones. In fact Salix would be a good choice (the LXDE version is 3/4 of the ...

Re: Mate 14.1 woes
Success: I've switched back to gdm and that gets LibreOffice etc working. I suspect that xdm may be behind the unpopulated panel, but I'm too lazy to investigate further. As for SiS, as you say, there are not many of us left without video cards, and VESA does fine.
