I notice that people are still referring to Lilo, but it's been discontinued. Has anyone heard of some-one taking over the project?

Re: LiveCD almost dead???
Over the last few months there have been a lot of people coming to LinuxQuestions asking for advice about switching to Linux now that XP support has ended. I tend to advise Mint for the larger computers, AntiX for the smaller ones. In fact Salix would be a good choice (the LXDE version is 3/4 of the...

Re: Mate 14.1 woes
Success: I've switched back to gdm and that gets LibreOffice etc working. I suspect that xdm may be behind the unpopulated panel, but I'm too lazy to investigate further. As for SiS, as you say, there are not many of us left without video cards, and VESA does fine. This was a clean install for revie...

SOLVED Mate 14.1 woes
I've just installed Salix 14.1 Mate, 32-bit version, and it's a series of problems. 1. To start with, X wouldn't start and the log stated that there'd been a segfault. I'd had that problem with Mint recently, so I tried the solution I'd used there: switch from gdm to xdm. That got me "x1 respaw...

Re: Salix Xfce 14.0
Today I'll be posting my review of Salix 14 on LinuxQuestions: 9/10 again! A great job.
All we need now is for a "tick the box" provision of encryption for /home. Fedora, Fuduntu, Mint, OpenSUSE, ZevenOS, and ZorinOS all have it: could you adapt someone elses code?

My review at Linuxquestions has been read by 1269 people in the last 2 weeks: there's obviously an interest in Mate. By the way, I gave it 8/10.

Thank you!
That's one of the great things about Salix. Try making suggestions to Ubuntu or Fedora

Re: Whaawmp
Further investigation has solved the problem. Whaawmp won't play files that are in a HD partition mounted on /media. It will play them if they're in USB memory mounted on /media. It does have one problem remaining, though. It starts with a blank screen, and only shows a picture if I press F11 twice,...
Whaawmp
When the Mate version came out as RC1, I reported that I couldn't get Whaawmp to work: http://www.salixos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=3396&p=22189#p22189 I'm still getting exactly the same errors in the release version and nothing plays. Last time I replaced it with Parole, this time with...

Mozo menu-editor for Maté
Some time ago, some-one asked for the Mozo (ex Alacarte) menu editor for Maté. Even if it isn't on the CD, surely it should be in the repository. So why does anyone need to edit the menu? Well, my menu has: root terminal Units running in a terminal an emulators section entries for a couple of Window...
