I run Salix with KDE its as solid as a rock in fact its the most stable version of 4.4.3 I've used and going back and forth with Arch using KDE 4.6 I don't really notice that much difference ie neither system crashes Salix uses far less ram, amarok, kcd, are still crap dolphin does not crash in eith...

I use exaile to listen and gtkpod to write to my ipod I'm using KDE in Salix, I find most of the KDE multimedia apps are totaly useless in KDE thats not just Salix. that is strange I just installed sallix codecs and vlc
Added myself to most of the groups like audio, cdrom, video, disc, wheel,etc,etc.and all plays well
/dev/dvd0 and /dev/dvd1 are my drives if that helps

Its not my tip it is mentioned earlier in the thread all I did was string it all together. as ive used this method for a long time and some distros you need to go around the bushes to stop the xserver. as I use Gnome/kde I can open a terminal directly in any directory so it is simpler than I describ...
