No doubt this is overkill, but it fixed my problem. Plus I got a few upgraded packages in the process, ;)
Issue :
From Salix repo:
zathura
zathura-mupdf
zathura-cb
Zathura would not load any pages, and would only produce a black screen.

Re: Are there/where are the configuration scripts?
I've tested this several times and it works just fine as is. Though I think I've probably changed something because messages will show up to a point then splashy will start. Either way though, switching to vt 8 suffices enough and allows the user to modify the accounts, then starts gdm without any ...

Re: Are there/where are the configuration scripts?
Put it into rc.M. At least that's where zenwalk puts it postinstall script.
rc.postinstall of Zenwalk: http://pastebin.org/78275
rc.M of Zw: http://pastebin.org/78276
Instead of splash you might have to put splashy into verbose mode.
After trying it out in rc.M I found how to get around splashy ...

Re: Are there/where are the configuration scripts?
I'm not really sure what you're asking. If you're talking about usersetup , that's in /usr/sbin.
Was able to test it today, and yep that's what I was looking for.
You can add an rc script in /etc/rc.d/ that will ask for the root password, then display a message that the user needs to create a ...

Are there/where are the configuration scripts?
I've got a computer prepared to sell and I just need to do one more thing, force the user to configure root password and user account, but haven't had any luck. Well, that's not entirely true, I've started working on a script using dialog, and have plans on starting another script using xdialog that ...

Re: Saying Howdy...
Hmm...Then why a gdm selection? Probably auto installed by gdm, hence G nome Display Manager.
Because gdm is the only full featured login manager. For KDE based systems there is also kdm, but it's not that good as gdm either. Besides, if you forget about the name, there is nothing specific to ...

Re: Saying Howdy...
Figured those two questions out rather quickly, so yeah, I just needed to write the darn things down... ...Getting extremely forgetful and absentminded the older I get...Sheesh...
There is no gnome in Salix. There are some gnome applications, but no gnome.
Hmm...Then why a gdm ...

Saying Howdy...
Well, I didn't see a Introduction forum, so eh, I'm saying Hello here...:D...
It's been about a week since I installed it, and only have had a few problems. Blacklisting ipv6; xfce, X, and FF froze when I rebooted into Salix (My son had rebooted the computer into Windows Vista without closing FF ...
