Re: Package managers

Not bad. I think that multiple files is KISS. But maybe a bundle one is also one solution. But it will break some tools (depcheck, requiredbuilder, ...) It's really easier to have one file for one goal. Perhaps we can use a tar file (not compressed) to not have many files out there. For about the du...

Re: Package managers

Yeah, you are totaly right Gapan !!

I see spkg, this could be a good replacement for pkgtools :)
I also like that there is a lib. This could be used for zpm (yes, I really like zpm).

Re: Package managers

I appreciate a tool written in C, because it's less dependancies to use it on a minimalist system (chroot system for example). I totally agree with your gaols. I think zpm could do this, but it lacks two goals for now : - it still uses pkgtools which are slow. - it doesn't handle multiple repos for ...

Re: Versioned repos

I work on upgrade scripts for Zenwalk so I know the problem. This is not trivial (as in any other distro). But if we think of it from the start, it could be easier.

Re: Standard installation CD or Live CD?

It's REALLY not easy to answers this type of questions... Zenwalk text install is often criticized in reviews, even if the overall reviews is good. A graphical installer should be better IMO. We could use VESA for graphical installation, it's far enough ! People just need a mouse, and the ability to...

Re: Main idea ?

zpm is in active developpement and Sparky would want to make it handle others distro than Zenwalk/Slackware. He told me he wanted to handle many repos and others thinks like that. For about the main idea of the new distro - is it really named "alcoholix" ??? - I'm in the oppposite directio...

Re: Jabber room

IRC is mainly used, but it's not as good as Jabber rooms.
I'll try to join if I can. Is there a webapplet anywhere ? I don't have software installed at work for it and I'm not sure I can install one.

Re: x86_64

I prefer to have both versions (x86 and x86_64, maybe others ?).
But like Gapan, I prefer to have firstly a good distro in x86 and then try to have it for x86_64.
Be careful, most softwares don't compile in x86_64 without patches ! So it may take a bit of work to compile in x86_64...

Re: Desktop enviroment

Hi ! It's my first message here :) Hi everybody :) Hum. I think we could use 2 types of ISO : - One with XFCE by default and default applications (like the current Zenwalk) with size as small as possible. - One with Gnome+KDE+XFCE+Openbox & others, with default applications for each DE, and a qu...
