Windows 7 on SSD

Post by mimosa »

I'm about to put Windows on this machine with its SSD, for the use of my daughter. I will of course hunt around online for recommended tweaks (such as turning off the Windows page file) - but does anyone here have any recommendations?

My main interest is preserving the useful life of the drive, not performance, though I wouldn't want to compromise performance drastically. My daughter gets this nice box because she uses AUTOCAD extensively - architectural drafting software.

For the same reason, when the machine is used for Linux, I haven't created a swap; with 8GB, I imagine it would be little benefit anyway.

Thank you, I have already searched and researched. I trust the Salix community's collective wisdom, though, and would be grateful for its special insight :)

Incidentally, this seems like a good place to link to this excellent related wiki page, for Linux systems:
