Looks like I finally found it.

Post by Orion »

I installed Salix for the first time a few days ago, and suffice to say, it looks like I finally found a long-term distro which I would be happy to use for every day computing. Originally, like a lot of people, I used to be a Windows user; and then I decided to convert to the Linux world a few years back for a number of different reasons. Despite the myriad number of distributions available which gives users the freedom to choose whatever they want, I fell into a quagmire where I found myself distro-hopping - trying to find the "perfect distro." Well, it looks like I found it, and I can't see myself changing in the forseeable future. I eulogise this distro's stability, being lightweight on system resources and memory, being quick and easy to install (I actually managed to install Gentoo a few months ago, I liked the sense of achievement of compiling an entire distro on my own, but it's definitely not worth going through that ever again) as well as the fact that it's different from the Debian-based distros which I've been using; most of which succumbed to adopting systemd.

TL;DR fantastic work people.

Orion,

Welcome to the community. Your experience is very similar to many of us here.

Distro-hopping stopped for many of us when we found Salix or Slackware.

:D
