Greetings Salix Kernel hackers

Post by robert3t »

I'd like to update the https://docs.salixos.org/wiki/How_to_in ... ent_kernel page to include kernel-generic instructions (which worked fine for me) as well as a vanilla kernel installation using latest source from kernel.org.

I use Salix on an old Lenovo S10e with a single core Atom processor and 2GB of RAM so I can use all the resources I can scrounge. That being said - Salix runs wonderfully on this old notebook even with the huge kernel.

Hi robert3t and welcome!

I have created an account for you in the wiki. You must have gotten an automated email about it. Please tell me if you find any issues.

There are some instructions about installing a vanilla kernel from source here:
https://docs.salixos.org/wiki/index.php ... ile_kernel

Thank you for your interest. :)

Those instructions actually already cover installing the generic kernel, though not in great detail. The vast majority of users will want the huge kernel, and many of them need instructions that are as straightforward as possible.
