Wallpaper thoughts

Hi!

I just wanted to give my 2 cents on the default wallpaper:

There is just too much going on in it. Make it more simple - it will be easier on the eyes for the user and the icons won't dissapear in it.
As said, think about how easy it is to see the icons on it.
Maybe choose a color to be the dominant color in our wallpapers - it will make Salix OS easy to identify when somebody see it: Ubuntu have brown, SUSE have green and Fedora have blue. Think about it :)

Goodnight.

That's a very good point, especially on the left side of the wallpaper.

Hmm... so what's left? Not much, unless we use an association of 2 colors.

Exactly :)

Not much, but openSUSE normally use a dark green color. And if we take a look at the Salix website we see a light, "dusty" green. I think this could work out quite well.

I think I will take a try to make a wallpaper for Salix with my own thought in mind :)

You understand that no one has a copyright on colors, right?

:D

In this case maybe not so much a question of copyright than clear visual identity. Of course, you can use the same color if clearly different in shade. For example the green of Mint is different than the green of SUSE & thus there is no confusion or association between both distros although they both largely rely on 'green' as a component of their visual identity.

Personally I like green turquoise... it's definitely one of my favorite. :)

IMHO we should not be bound to defined colors. Looking at the same colors all the time gets boring. We already have the tree to get recognized.

Of course we have the tree, but then we are bounded to have it to be kind of main element in our artwork if we want to be easy to recognize.

And I disagree that looking at the same color is boring for two reasons:

1: Wallpaper art is in my opinion supposed to be a bit "boring" - it's more productive to have a relaxed background. In the one we have now is there simply too much going on :)
2: Color is not the only way to make a change - different made gradients, patterns, drawings and so on (take a look at f.ex Fedora artwork - it's always blue and still very different from release to release :) )
