smartd: missing dep

Post by thenktor »

Hi,

after a fresh install (and update) of Salix64 Xfce 14.2 the smartd won't start:
# smartd
smartd: error while loading shared libraries: libcap-ng.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Package is missing: libcap-ng-0.7.7-x86_64-1

Hi thenktor!

Yes, you're right. I've know about this, but there's nothing we can do now, other than making a new iso.

Hello everyone!

The missing dependency is no big deal and can be remedied by anyone interested. libcap-ng is included in the Salix repositories and can be installed without any external help.
Afterwards, smartd can run. For automatic start, either remove the comment characters from the start condition block concerned from rc.M or copy this text without comment signs into file rc.local.

So, that's an easy-to-reach workaround.
