Hi all,
after upgrade to 14.2 my network connection is somewhat unstable.
the networkmanager applet in the task bar is "flickering" in a 5/1 second sequence. After 5 seconds the line is gone and back after 1 second.
This is persistent.
I tried to figure out if the settings show any obvious problem, but at least I don't see any.
Sure, I did not change anything on the hardware or setting with the upgrade...
I just restarted the router and it did not change.
Any hint?
Thanks.

Re: ethernet not stable
Not a solution to the problem itself, but have you tried switching back to Wicd (in repos)? Does that fix it?
Re: ethernet not stable
Hi Mimosa,
no.
I would first like to understand why it happens before I think of a cure...
But if there is no indication...it might be worth giving it a try. Thanks.

Re: ethernet not stable
I have the same or similar problem on both my wifi and wired connected computers They just continue to cycle between a connected and unconnected states. The wired connection are actually somewhat usable but extremely annoying. I did switch to wicd on them and have no problem connecting. The only common thread that i can come up with is my network router which is running openwrt. Note that I can install networkmanager on my 14,1 install using the the networkmanager version available from the 14.1 repository and have no problems connecting.

Re: ethernet not stable
laprjns,
thanks for the answer.
No idea what software my router is using - its a fixed router from my cable provider.
Same was with 14.1: network manager was working fine.
I did uninstall wicd somewhen earlier, when I had problems to connect to ethernet at all (which turned out to be a user error)
so I switched to network manager at that time.
So I will give it a try later on and report.
Thanks

Re: ethernet not stable
Trying wicd would serve a diagnostic purpose as well, confirming that Network Manager (in 14.2) is responsible. It would obviously be great though if you could get to the bottom of this.
Re: ethernet not stable
Hi,
so far I have changed the settings in network managers configuration file and aaded the lines (from '*conf.org'):
as this was missing in the changed file.
After that the connection timeout is much shorter or reconnect is much faster, but it remains flickering.

Re: ethernet not stable
I also wonder if it would be a worthwhile experiment to rebuild the NetworkManager package from 14.1 on your 14.2 system, and see if behaviour is the same? If not, either the build or the version must be responsible.
Re: ethernet not stable
Well,
I created a new connection with more or less the same settings, just a dynamic DHCP setup instead of the manual assignment of the IP addresses which I normally do.
I then terminated the existing 1st profile and used the 2nd profile instead.
The 2nd profile could not connect properly. No idea why.
I then switched back to the 1st profile and..its not flickering
No idea what caused the problem.
I will check if there is anywhere a configuration file for Network Manager which was screwed and is now fixed.
So maybe the solution is to terminate the existing connection from the '14.1' setup and create a new connection.

Re: ethernet not stable
The issue came back today.
I once more changed the setting to DHCP automatic (manual before) and it disappeared.
I then changed back to manual and still no flickering.
Still no clue why flickering and then why not...
