persistence file takes a while to load

Post by kevin_maher »

Hi all

I have tried to find a solution to this in these forums, but so far no luck so am hoping someone will know the answer... I have Salix installed on a USB stick, and for some time now it takes about 10 minutes for it to load the persistent file. It then works fine after that, then when I go to shut down it gets to the "Remounting root file system read only" line it hangs - and even after being left for half an hour or more, simply doesn't move from there and shut down the system like it should.

It stops for 10 minutes when booting up when it gets to the 'EXT4-fs (loop6): mounted filesystem with ordered data mode. Opts: (null)' line at the 21 second mark shown here, then resumes after some time as you can see:

Code: Select all

Does anyone know what could be causing this, please? Any advice on how to fix it would be much appreciated.

Hi all

I have solved this myself - I suspect the problem was caused by increasing the size of the persistence file a couple of times. I think I started with a 1GB file and over two sessions increased it to 2.6GB. Have reinstalled Salix onto another USB stick and chose a 2.6GB persistence file from the get go, and that one boots in much more reasonable time (minute and a half or thereabouts).

Cheers
