bash-4.3$ inxi -S

Now I am baffled.

Edit: I might be seeing the mistake. Just copy this line into the terminal:

Code: Select all

sudo slapt-get -i libxkbcommon
Do not put anything before it. After your username comes the command beginning with sudo. You can even click on "select all" and then copy the command.

If it is easier because I am still not sure where we are here then open Gslapt and search for libxkbcommon. It has to be there.

Something else is very wrong here. First of all, the bash prompt is not the one you get with salix. It shouldn't be "bash-4.3$". libxkbcommon is indeed part of the repos, so it is strange how papa cannot find it.

papa, can you post the output of these commands?

Code: Select all

cat /etc/slapt-get/slapt-getrc
cat /etc/slapt-get/slapt-srcrc

You don't have any salix repos in your repositories. So either:

1. You didn't install salix in the first place
2. You broke everything after installation and you really tried hard to do so (and also not mentioned here)

Seeing how your prompt doesn't even match a salix system, I'm going to guess its option 1. You installed Slackware, installed slapt-get on top of it and then made some changes that somehow made you think that what you did is equivalent to a salix system. It's not.

That would have been no problem at all if your post was honest and stated so in the first place. It's not cool posting false information and sending everyone on a wild goose chase.

My answer: No, no, no. By downloading from the salix site, I used Salix64 Xfce 14.2 DVD ISO (x86_64, 64-bit) to install Salix. I am unable to do what you are describing. I am a simple user and not at all an expert. I use the cd-rom I burned with xfburn and I follow the salix installation procedure. I don't know how to do anything else. The commands you are asking me to run are completely unknown to me.

It wouldn't have been a problem if your post was honest and stated that in the first place. It's not cool to post false information and send everyone on a wild goose chase.

My response: I don't appreciate being told that I am posting false information. I have too much respect for people like you who spend a lot of time helping people with less knowledge of a linux system. It's not my character.

I would like to reinstall Salix. It will be easy because I have no personal data to save. But I do not know what it will bring me since I follow the installation procedure without modifying anything. When salix was installed gslapt and sourcery were present in the menus without my intervention. The installation of Salix was done on a blank disk, creating new partitions like this:
Disk /dev/sda: 149.1 GiB, 160041885696 bytes, 312581808 sectors
Units: 1 × 512 sector = 512 bytes
Sector size (logical / physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum / optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Disc Label Type: spine
Disk ID: 0xa807c2e1

Boot Device Start End Sectors Size Id Type
/dev/sda1 2048 20973567 20971520 10G 82 Swap partition
/dev/sda2*20973568 146802687 125829120 60G 83 Linux
/dev/sda3 146802688 312581807 165779120 79.1G 83 Linux
bash-4.3$
I may have made a mistake but I don't know which one!

If we could, I would accept that you take control of my pc remotely. I don't mind and will show the truth of what I wrote.

Re: Opera et Gscan2pdf

I completely redid the Salix installation. I deleted my disk partitions. I downloaded the Salix Live64 Xfce 14.2.1 DVD ISO file (x86_64, 64-bit) then with xfburn I burned a dvd. For the installation of Salix I created the following partitions:

Boot Device Start End Sectors Size Id Type
/dev/sda1 2048 20973567 20971520 10G 82 Swap partition
/dev/sda2*20973568 312581807 291608240 139.1G 83 Linux
Salix is the only linux os on this disk.

The installation went well. I used source http://mirrors.xmission.com/salix/x86_6 ... ware-14.2/ for gslapt (don't know if it's good) and made an update.
I tried again to install opera stable (75.0.3969.93). The opera selection is present in the Internet menu but does not work. In command line opera gives the message :
bash-4.3$ opera
opera: error while loading shared libraries: libxkbcommon.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
The libxkbcommon.so.0 library is unknown in gslapt and sourcery.

Now I would like to end this discussion which brings me nothing. I would like (if possible) a moderator to delete this post. Thank you.

I am still not following here. Something is wrong.

But I can remember that the ISOs are quite old. That should change in the near future when Salix 15 comes out.

After your install I would like you to change the mirrors. There is a GUI (graphical interface) for it in the menu. Choose one near you and then update the system preferably from the command line so we can see what you do by typing this:

Code: Select all

sudo slapt-get --update
and then

Code: Select all

sudo slapt-get --upgrade
Post the output here and please use the code display tags

| Zim (A desktop wiki and outliner)
|
| Zim is a WYSIWYG text editor written in Gtk2-Perl which aims to bring
| the concept of a wiki to your desktop. Every page is saved as a text
| file with wiki markup. Pages can contain links to other pages, and are
| saved automatically. Creating a new page is as easy as linking to a
| non-existing page. Pages are ordered in a hierarchical structure that
| gives it the look and feel of an outliner. This tool is intended to
| keep track of TODO lists or to serve as a personal scratch book.
