no package management on old Thinkpad T42 with Salix 15

Post by OsunSeyi »

Yes, new installed and running fine so far.
Salix 15 is really nice and clean...

Unfortunatly I have some problems with the internet.

Am writing with firefox now, runnig ok but sometimes very very slow (timeout)...
Same on a wired connectin ore wlan!

It's no problem to updating the mirror-list, but:

Code: Select all

tom[~]$ sudo slapt-get --update
Passwort:
Rufe Paket-Daten von [http://slackware.uk/salix/i486/slackware-15.0/] ab... Download von Couldn't resolve host name gescheitert
Rufe Paket-Daten von [http://slackware.uk/salix/i486/slackware-15.0/extra/] ab... ^C
tom[~]$
So, what now?
I think the network-connection is simply too slow...
But not on Salix 14.1 with a T60 which is a little newer.

I tried nluug.nl (normal I chose this) and mirrowservice.org... always the same result.
Gslapt loaded down the package list but not the checksum-list.
slapt-get --update is also not working

Firefox also is really slow, when I open more than 1 tab it will time out while loading (searver not reachable)

Hi, no I use Salix 32 bit non-pae as is without proxy.

Tried the life-CD of Salix 14.2.1 where it was not possible to update the mirror list, but I think it would if I installed it.
Also tried Slacko-Puppy based on SL 13.37 where Seamonkey is really really fast loading websites.

So perhaps it's a question of the drivers? But it doesn't matter if I use wired or wlan... both is not working.
It wasn't even possible to load this forum in FF, timeout...
