"Temporary failure in name resolution" issue

Post by bradnag »

Hi Folks,

What do you think would have been the cause of "Temporary failure in name resolution". I stopped

Code: Select all

/etc/rc.d/rc.networkmanager
and entered

Code: Select all

nameserver 8.8.8.8
and dns resolved OK. I disabled /etc/rc.d/rc.networkmanager and rebooted, network OK. When I started /etc/rc.d/rc.networkmanager back dns failed.

After an hour everything came back to normal /etc/rc.d/rc.networkmanager (enabled and running)

Thanks!

I guess it could have been that your router's/ISP's default nameservers went offline for a while.

It looks like so, but other machine on the same router did not experience this "dns failure"

Do they have their own individual DNS settings?
