theres a bug with aufs2/posivxl on fat32 with the new aufs2/2.6.36 but that should be fixed soon...
Yes JRD started working on it as well => http://enialis.net/~jrd/salix/kernelive ... 1cp-alpha/
when you goes do get done with the liveclone is it going to be similar to how Vector did it with their live 6.0 wherein theres a older similar to linux-live in /root, etc?
I haven't seen how they do it. But I already had this functionality in ZenLive which I removed when rewriting LiveClone for Salix. JRD is working on improving & updating the Linux Live Scripts whose development seems to be totally halted & abandoned. When this is done, LiveClone will use the new LLS and will be executable from a standard environment.
I also have a 64bit version of linux-live-6.3.0 if you guys want to put out a live 64bit cd
Wow! yes! JRD will be thrilled! :) Is the result still 100 % Slackware compatible?
anyway, if you need anything holler as I have accumulated alot of stuff concerning livecd making
Yes nFluxOs is an amazing project, I'm sure we can learn from you. Thanks for your offer :)

Awesome Akuna I did not know that!
will check it out for sure and test JRD's kernel
does his have an issue with fat32 and changes?

now, Akuna, here's the linux-live I use
they were first modified by Ritchie at Slax forums for replacing lls which only supports squashfs 3.4
Ritchies modified lls uses squashfs-lzma 4.1 cvs or reg squashfs 4.0 (no lzma)

heres lls 6.3.0 x86 and x86_64 for squashfs-lzma kernel
http://multidistro.com/KERNELS/linux-li ... 86.tar.bz2

http://multidistro.com/KERNELS/Linux-li ... 64.tar.bz2

for squashfs regular vanilla kernel
http://multidistro.com/KERNELS/linux-li ... .0.tar.bz2

http://multidistro.com/KERNELS/linux-li ... 4.0.tar.gz

the difference is reg squashfs decompress faster (faster boot) but the live media is much bigger than squashfs-lzma
for instance my nFluxOS Slackware builds are about 690mb, if I used reg squashfs 4.0 the iso would be about 900mb or bigger, so I need to use squashfs-lzma

anyway, yes, they're all 100% slackware compatible
they are the same as regular LLS, just busybox, etc being rebuilt for squashfs-lzma 4.1
see here
http://www.slax.org/forum.php?action=vi ... ht=Ritchie

also, I have heard Slax may be dying, but Fathom at Slax forum has made a new remix08 Slax build
http://www.slax.org/forum.php?action=vi ... ntID=66046
he also provides the patches I used to make the 2.6.35.7 kernel using the Slackware -current kernel source
and other things, here's Ponce's repo
http://ponce.cc/slax-remix/

he also has been working on a 2.6.36 09 build
http://www.slax.org/forum.php?action=vi ... ntID=68767

Now, actually Akuna my nFluxOS builds are only possible due to the work of JRD, Fathom, Ritchie, and many others which includes many SalixOS packages. I am not a coder or anything and only have limited knowledge of most things linux, but i try to find things I need
My distro's are rather amaturish and hodge-podge compared to SalixOS as I am only one guy
but thanks for all the info and comments!

Hey, you could have fooled me. That goes to show that what actually matters is not the knowledge you have but what you do with the knowledge you have. ;)

Hey !! What a lot of usefull informations/links !
I must check out all of these :-D
Especially the new build for LLS with 64 bits support. I worked on it and patched LLS but was not fond of the result. And it was paused the time to properly release some live versions. It could be a quick way to release 64 bits of our current Live versions for 64 bits ;-)
linus72 wrote:does his have an issue with fat32 and changes?
I didn't tested it on fat32 yet. I found that posixvl is a good thing for some things but I always prefer to use a loopback device with a XFS (or maybe reiserfs) filesystem on it. This way the writing is buffered so it increases flash memory life and it's easier to switch from one persistence file to another.
So in short, I may have the same problem you describe…

LZMA compression for kernel modules (so for squashfs) and maybe AUFS2 will soon be available in some near-future kernels. It will soon not required any patches of the kernel!

I like the way different people around Slackware interact to propose enhanced version of LiveCDs. It's a positive attitude I think. The information go forth and back.
I'm writing new scripts for creating a LiveCD, based on LLS and SLS. I hope they will be ready soon for testing :-)

Thanks JRD
Please check out the 64bit live version here, it's multilib too
http://multidistro.com/NFLUXNEW/SQ4/slack.html
i havent updated it lately but the LLS in /root is what you want

yeah, the LLS I use and probably yours also, works with any type of 4.0+ squashfs
I did a comparo between using reg squashfs 4.0 (2.6.35.7 hugesmp) and squashfs-lzma (4.1)
and the thing that stood out was the compression differences 690mb cd vs 900mb cd

today I made a livecd using ARCH's squashfs-tools 4.1.2 and 2.6.36 with just aufs2 and reg squashfs
and it worked good also
the trick is to put whatever version of squashfs-tools in linux-live-6.3.0/tools/
mksquashfs and unsquashfs
so, you know if you have a kernel thats using just squashfs 4.0, then you put the appropriate mksquashfs/unsquashfs in linux-live-6.3.0/tools/
I have used mksquashfs/unsquashfs versions 4.0 and up from debian, arch, and yours and they say that using 4.0 is better than lzma because it takes longer to boot and uses alot of resources to decompress the fs into ram, etc
so, I guess 4.0 non-lzma boots faster, uses less resources, but is much bigger
?
you guys should start also hunting the ARCH AUR repo as they have many many cool apps and such
like aufs2-all which builds a aufs2 module for the running kernel
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=38249

or my fav PCManFM-Mod, which is smokin, its in all 4 versions of nFluxOS
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=34819

look at all the homemade Window Managers they have
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php? ... _Search=Go
catwm? lol
their (ARCH) forums are a gold mine of info too as ARCH and Slackware are very close in philosophy and such

also, JRD, have you seen the Archbang and archiso-live builds?
they also use a version of LLS
theres archiso-live
https://github.com/godane/archiso-live

and the new archiso2 which is how ArchBang is made
https://github.com/godane/archiso2
just in case you wanna check out how they do LLS and the first archiso-live does like 6 different builds incl Slitaz and wolvix?!

anyway, the new Live iso's are awesome, and keep it up!
