The is no single "best". "Best" is not an objective metric. What is best for me, might not be best for you. You'll have to try to decide for yourself.

You could try them out in a VM (use acpi=off if you have trouble booting). Salix xfce 13.37 live is available as RC, and you could try the 13.1 Live versions of the others. (Of course, these options are all going to be slower than an actual installation would be.)

You don't mention speed as a consideration. All these are fast of their kind, but Fluxbox is still more lightweight than KDE.

If you like KDE and your hardware is up to it, that might be a good choice. Xfce is very full-featured.

Look at the Startup Guide (link on homepage) for full info on the application selection for each edition.

Depends on personal taste. Really. Mimosa hints it probably a good way to choose.
