What on earth is Flash Player doing in the Preferences menu?

I don't see anything at /usr/share/applications/

It is somewhat useless but it gives an easy way to delete private SWF data (flash-player-properties).
Maybe they are panicking over HTML5.

It sounds like you don't have a necessary package installed. I have:

Code: Select all

mate-appearance-properties.desktop

I don't see one for the panel either. You can change keyboard layout from the menu: System -> Administration -> Keyboard

Trash is not working for mate-file-manager.
You're missing a lot of important packages. Of the ones in the /mate directory in our repos, you can probably only leave out mate-backgrounds, mate-common, mate-conf-editor, mate-doc-utils, mate-file-archiver, mate-file-manager-open-terminal, mate-document-viewer, mate-icon-theme, mate-netspeed and mate-sensors-applet. You'll be missing some functionality without these, but everything else has definitely got to be installed.

Caitlyn, are you saying you're having the same missing icons as zachary does?
caitlyn wrote:What on earth is Flash Player doing in the Preferences menu?
Well, that's where it's supposed to be. It's in the same place in Xfce, it's just that in Xfce the same menu is called "Settings". Same thing though.

I'm getting one by default in the tray, without me having to set one up. I think it gets added automatically to the tray if you're using more than one keyboard layout.

Sorry, I wasn't clear about what I was saying. I am running the same architecture as Zachary and I am NOT seeing the same problems.

You're right about the keyboard applet. I edited my /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d//etc/X11/xorg.conf.d to allow for US and Israeli keyboards and the applet appeared. I always do that on my desktop but not on the netbook. It does work.

Privoxy isn't working properly. It doesn't block ads in Vimprobable, but all's fine on the same machine with Ratpoison instead of Mate. A minor point, and the only difference in functionality I noticed while testing over several hours. htop tells me privoxy is running.

I said earlier it was slow, well, that mainly seems to affect application startup. I haven't been using anything heavy, though - next time I boot into it I might try powering up Firefox and Libre ;)

Not sure about privoxy. But I know Mate has it's own proxy settings tool. It's in the menu System/Preferences/Network proxy. I haven't actually used it.
