In case someone wants to try it (and have the necessary knowledge), GStreamer released a new bug-fix version this week: http://gstreamer.freedesktop.org/.

It may or may not solve some of the reported issues.

For anyone having problems playing back DVDs or whatever: you need to mount the disc first.

It is not possible to upgrade to this version. Slackware 14.0 does not use the 1.0.x versions.

I GOT VLC TO PLAY BOTH DVD AND AUDIO CD :D

The trick, I changed to kernel-3.5.4 snatched from VL7.

I double checked it, meaning changing twice back and forth from kernel-3.5.4 and kernel-huge-smp-3.2.29-smp.
It held, in the latter VLC will not play as I have reported,
with kernel-3.5.4 no problem.

In the Salix kernel in VLC click Media>Open Disc..>Disc device gives only one option: /dev/hdb
whereas in VL7 kernel Disc device gives additional correct options of /dev/cdrom and /dev/sr0.

Code: Select all

 uname -a

Managed to get conky-1.9.0 to compile.

After running configure I had to go into the src directory and open the Makefile
which resides there and change the line which contains:

Code: Select all

LDFLAGS =
to

Code: Select all

LDFLAGS = -g -ldl
It does not require many words to speak the truth.

Salix Xfce 14.0 final has been released! http://www.salixos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=4150

For everyone that has downloaded the RC3, no need to download again. RC3 is final. Just rename your files and remove the RC3 part from the filenames.

Thanks everyone for testing!
