Salix Xfce 14.0.1RC2

Post by gapan »

So, here is Salix Xfce 14.0.1RC2. Compared to the RC1, released about a week ago, the only difference this one has, is an updated icedtea-web package, as it was discovered that the one that was in RC1 didn't really work. Also, the screensaver should be disabled by default now, as it seems there were a few cases with some graphics cards acting up with certain 3D screensavers. So, this is probably the safest way to avoid any crashes. Any users that want to enable the screensaver can certainly do it from the respective entry in the Settings menu in Xfce.

You can download both 32bit and 64bit releases through Sourceforge.

32-bit, i486:
Sourceforge: http://sourceforge.net/projects/salix/f ... o/download
md5sum: 6acd88d1c2f27a249048844de2ca8eac

64-bit, x86_64
Sourceforge: http://sourceforge.net/projects/salix/f ... o/download
md5sum: 3026cf8002c3d1c34767661813218606

Hopefully this will be released in a few days time as 14.0.1 final.

Thanks for testing!

I've experienced no more freezes. I should say I'm using the upgraded rc1.

My only uncertainty is regarding the screensaver. It works fine if turned on in the menu, or via xscreensaver-demo. But on reboot, it is off again. Is this as expected? Is there a way to set it up as a service, or some other approach to make sure it just works (as most users will wish to do)?

It occurs to me this may have something to do with using Xmonad. When I'd used xfce for some time with no further crashes, I returned to xmonad to see if that was what had been causing them; but everything is still fine in that department, so apparently not.

Using xmonad before the upgrade of the setting package, the screensaver worked normally.

Hello,

Still having problems with openjre.

It seems that java is not recognised

Code: Select all

root[antonio]# which java
which: no java in (/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/sbin:/usr/sbin:/bin:/usr/bin)
root[antonio]#
Therefore if I try to install a .jar file the output is as as following:

Code: Select all

root[Scaricati]# java -jar aTunes_3.1.0_installer.jar
bash: java: command not found
How shall bypass this?
Thanks for support

Don't run it as root.

I renamed the RC2 to final. The new sourceforge URLs are these:

32-bit:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/salix/f ... o/download

64-bit:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/salix/f ... o/download

Will make the announcement tomorrow. Thanks everyone for testing!

Hello Gapan,
aTunes is working; I have run the .jar file as standard user.
Thanks for the tip.
