Salix Live Xfce 14.2 rc2

Post by djemos »

Salix Live Xfce 14.2 rc2 is ready.

I hope no problems will be reported and this will be renamed to the final release.

If you want to transfer the live iso to a USB stick, make sure you read the instructions in this README.

If you choose to use ext3 filesystem for usb then do not create a persistent file. And boot with persistent. This is the easiest and fast option.
if you choose to use vfat then create a persistent file. It is also fast and usb can be used as linux live with persistence and as a common usb as well. This is my favorite option.

For live environment, standard user is “one” with password: "one"
User “one” is a super user. This is what you need to use applications need super user privileges.

You can also use the dd command to write the iso to a USB stick, but some features like persistence, will not be available.

You can download the iso images using the following links.

Can't get slocate to work.
It is installed, updatedb and locate are linked to it, however, nothing happens
with command locate, neither as sudo or user.
Updatedb has been run and there is file /etc/updatedb.conf.

Code: Select all

ls -l /etc/updatedb.conf
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 228 Jun 30 2009 /etc/updatedb.conf
Kind of old.

You cannot use updatedb on a read-only filesystem. And liveiso is such a system.

cat /etc/updatedb.conf
# /etc/updatedb.conf: slocate configuration file

PRUNEFS="devpts NFS nfs afs proc smbfs autofs iso9660 udf tmpfs cifs"
PRUNEPATHS="/dev /proc /sys /tmp /usr/tmp /var/tmp /afs /net /media /mnt"
export PRUNEFS
export PRUNEPATHS

Unfortunate timing but think you need to update the iso to the new kernel

We have talked about this with gapan. And decided to go with this kernel since rc2 was ready.

For anyone want to build live iso's or to involve in live iso's development, the source code and packages needed are:
Slackware-live-for Salix slackbuild and binaries
Slackware-live-for Salix on github

Live installer SLKBUILD and binaries
Live installer on github

Bash scripts to create a salix live iso

and you will need also syslinux installed in your system which exists on slackware repositories.

First of all : thank you and congratulations. Very nice iso.

Allow me to tell you that I agree with laprjns. Aren't you and gapan not able to reconsider your decison. This iso will become - as you stated - the nest stable Salix Live Xfce 14.2 and will be used for a very long time. So it's better to update the kernel (and some other programs) now.

But you are the bosses ...
