Long time guy !

I’am happy to see SalixOS back to life. I downloaded the beta1 version and I made an installation on Vitualbox. Wow I am impressed. I have been a Slackware user since 1997. Of course, in the first it wasn't my main system but from 2005 I switched to Linux and Slackware full time without looking back.

I got interested in SalixOS around 2010 and I like the philosophy behind it. The Salix tools on Slackware is perfect. Not too big just enough to make Slackware simple for basic Linux users.

About my installation of beta1 version, the language support (French Canada) is excellent. I only had to download the language packs for LibreOffice and Firefox. All system is in the good language indicated during the installation including keyboard an clock time. I proceeded to the installation of several software I normally use like Geany, Xournal, Smplayer, Cantata and some Pdf editor. All of them work perfectly and in the language of installation. Codec installation graphical tools for all codec media is very nice and simple to use. Xfce is perfect for Salix run fast and lite. I love it !

I'm going to go through installation on PC directly this week. The goal is to test in real situation. I love the night wallpaper that goes in the sun. Great idea. Great work guys! I am impressed...

There are a couple of possible nice combinations...
Shortly -- anything, as long as it makes sense.

Night to day, windowed to normal, blurry to sharp ... or combined.
Of course, -- with always the exact same basic image!

Another "1 Px" improvement to general appearance would be adding the '.face' file.
You know that default, preset user image icon, a small .png file.
Only renamed to '.face' with no extension at all.

I have uploaded an updated qogir-icon-theme package to the repos. Careful that you need to upgrade the spkg package first before you install it.

Reminder that if you have a fresh beta installation, you will need to first remove the previous package and then install the new one:

The default Qogir theme now includes dark panel icons, so you can actually tell what runs in the tray. There is also a -dark variant as well as a -dark-panel variant, which is meant to be used with light themes that otherwise have dark panels. There are also several other improvements with respect to individual icons.

Thank you for this new icon theme, as well as the installation instructions.

I appreciate that the Network Manager icon / applet is now clearly visible. Woo-hoo!

On dark styles such as Salix-dark, NetworkManager applet icon is only visible with the Qogir-dark-panel icon theme (invisible with Qogir or even Qogir-dark icon themes). Conversely on light styles (such as Salix), NetworkManager applet icon is barely visible with the Qogir-dark-panel icon theme but clearly visible with Qogir and Qogir-dark icon themes.
I am guessing this is the intended behavior, but better make sure than assume.

There are some issues with packages in Salix 15.0 repos (those are all compiled from SBo, but as we all know SBo builds may have issues):

• glfw is outdated, and lacks quite some functionality. Latest version is 3.3.7 as of April 5, 2022. Up-to-date packages can be found here. See also the corresponding ticket in Sourceforge.
• worker is slightly outdated. Not only that, but also doesn't add the proper icon in a xfce panel launcher (uses the default file manager icon instead). Latest version is 4.10.1 as of April 27, 2022 (this is a big fix release). Up-to-date packages with proper icons can be found here. See also the corresponding ticket.
• xnedit is up-to-date, but the SBo build lacks application icons, so if you add a xfce panel launcher for xnedit, it will only have a generic icon. This build fixes the problem. See also the corresponding ticket.

I recommend those packages should be replaced with the ones I linked above.

1. Exile and Flathub are missing in -dark-panel variant, and Gftp renders unshap. Ignore Gtkman -- it changed after the latest update.

3. Salix-GTK and Qogir-dark-panel are brokrn + broken.

Light isn't really an everyday option for most, and dark only for a very few, but the dark even doesn't work properly.
Some icons are missing, some are 'gray-in-gray'.

And the corner radius is wrong ...

4. ... and those ugly vertical lines (spacer) are still there.

You need to follow the Adwaita corner radius, or even better, get a decent, professionel theme (I did send you one).

Otherways, one just creates a total mess -- GTK 4 / 3+ / 2, and then some applications that use their own theming, plus some ...
