Hi everyone!
As some of you already found out, we have a new directory in our repositories that holds packages for Xfce 4.18! This may be used as an additional repository with slapt-get and using it will result in a complete Xfce 4.18 installation for your Salix 15.0 system!
All you have to do is add a line like this in your /etc/slapt-get/slapt-getrc for 64-bit systems:
Code: Select all
SOURCE=https://download.salixos.org/x86_64/xfce4.18-15.0/:PREFERRED
or for 32-bit systems:
Code: Select all
SOURCE=https://download.salixos.org/i486/xfce4.18-15.0/:PREFERRED
and then just upgrade your system:
Code: Select all
sudo slapt-get --update
sudo slapt-get --upgrade
You'll probably want to log out of Xfce and back in after that. You will then be greeted with the shiny new Xfce 4.18 environment!
Merry Christmas everyone!

Hi George,
sorry your instructions are not accurate for Slint-15.0
To get all the packages, instead of:
I had to type:
Now running Xfce 4.18 in Slint with no issue at all (and with speech). I confirm it looks way better that the version shipped in Slackware 15.0 without customization and add-ons.
So, you made my day!
Huge thanks, also on behalf of Slint users.
Cheers,
Didier

Hi George,

I installed Xfce 4.18 the other day using George's instructions. So to see which packages a Salix "Full" install would not get installed by doing a
slapt-get -upgrade I tried Didier's suggestion to use
slapt-get --install-set xfce and it added the following packages:
Code: Select all
The following NEW packages will be installed:
Greybird elementary-xfce liso-xfwm4-theme gtksourceview4 mousepad
mowi-xfwm4-theme orage xfce4-dev-tools xfce4-dict xfce4-eyes-plugin
xfce4-mailwatch-plugin xfce4-screensaver xfce4-time-out-plugin cogl clutter
xfdashboard
0 upgraded, 0 reinstalled, 16 newly installed, 0 to remove, 0 not upgraded.
However, I don't believe that these packages would be included in the Salix "FULL" install, unlike a Slackware / Slint install.

Yes, laprjns, these packages are not included in a default installation, however, they are included in our repos. That's on purpose.

I know, I am a bit... late, but I'm happy to report upgrading Xfce worked like a charm. Thank you George!
Happy New Year everybody!

Hello,
I'm new here and I don't speak English (Deepl helps me). Thanks for Xfce 4.18 and happy new year to all!
